Friday night’s final brought the curtain down on the 2014/2015 Aquasprint season – Larne ASC

With 8 counties involved, over 1500 swimmers from 24 clubs, hundreds of swimming roles covered  (we  covered 120 roles), thousands of buns/sandwiches scoffed, dozens of reports written and fully sponsored by Forest Feast over a 9 month period, the Aquasprint is the largest swimming event/tournament in the Swim Ulster calender.   No mean achievement.

The final itself, was a cracker.   All three teams Dungannon, Limavady and ourselves went to Bangor with a positive winning attitude and the respective swimmers raised their game to achieve this.  There was a show of  tremendous swimming which raised the supporters to a fever that you only get at a Aquasprint final night, it was deafening!!   Parents normally placid by day, were up on their feet, howling and roaring on their teams. It was brilliant.

The swimmers took the final right down to the wire and with only relays to go, any team  could have snatched victory.   However, the form book stood firm and with some strong relays finishes Larne did it. !!!

The victory capped a complete clean sweep for Larne, five galas, five victories and a final win to-boot.

Thank you to everyone who played a part through out the season.   To all the parents/senior swimmers who covered those 120 roles, thus making the job a lot easier, as grabbing volunters was pretty straightforward.

We don’t normally mention names in reports (to protect the innocent !!), but I feel I need to mention our captains Monica and Jamie who performed their roles to a high standard, as would be expected from those two. A special thanks to Carol Del, who assisted in getting started and taught me how to spell “Aquasprint”.

Last and far from least, our wonderful coaches  Kerrie and Dave, who, I can tell you, put their heart and sole into the Aquasprint. Finally, just to mention two quotes I heard, one from a swimmer and the other from an opposition coach.

“The best part of the night was jumping into the pool with my tee-shirt on” “Watching those kids having fun at the end, is just priceless”

Oh and the final score – Larne 314     Dungannon  278     Limavady   248
