Cookstown take victory over Larne

Club Name: Larne

Gala Date: 24th March 2017

Gala Venue: Larne Leisure Centre

Team points & winning team: Larne 188 v Cookstown 212

Gala Highlights: Larne hosted Cookstown at our first home Aquasprint of the season on Friday, with the biggest team of Larne swimmers to date. Being at home, the children were in fine form and right from the outset, it promised to be a fun-filled night of racing. The competition got off to a flying start with the medley relays with a first relay win from Larne Group B team and a race so close for the D group that it had to be declared a draw! The individual races followed with fantastic swims from both clubs. After the breaststroke, scores were neck and neck and it was all to race for. The butterfly event saw Cookstown pull ahead of Larne and as the freestyle continued, the gap widened further with some great swimming from the Cookstown swimmers. Despite another 2 freestyle relay wins from the Larne Group B & D swimmers, Cookstown raced on to victory; final scores Larne 188 v Cookstown 212

Outstanding contribution or effort: A big thankyou to all the children from Larne and Cookstown, especially those who are new to competing; everyone gave it their best and showed fantastic team spirit and determination. Special thankyou to those swimmers, parent and coaches who took part even though the Antrim Championships were over the following 2 days – a great commitment from all to the younger swimmers!
